SINGAPORE, 10 JANUARY 2026 – The Lion City Sailors clinched a third consecutive Singapore Cup title, beating rivals BG Tampines Rovers 2–0 after extra time on Saturday, 10 January, in what was a rematch of the 2024/25 Final.

After a goalless 90 minutes, the Sailors struck twice in extra time through substitutes Hami Syahin and Anderson Lopes to settle a tense contest at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

The Sailors’ breakthrough arrived in the 114th minute following a slick move down the left. Luka Adzic released Diogo Costa with a perfectly weighted pass, and the Portuguese winger’s cut-back found Hami, who smashed a left-footed finish past Syazwan Buhari.

Seven minutes later, Lopes outmuscled Dylan Fox to latch onto Ivan Susak’s long ball before finding the net with a cool finish.

The win was perhaps a fair reflection of the Sailors’ dominance from the first whistle.

They carved out four big chances in the first 10 minutes and restricted the Stags to zero shots on target throughout the match.

The closest Tampines came to finding the back of the net was in the 16th minute when Takeshi Yoshimoto nearly caught Susak off his line with an audacious effort from inside his own half.

“I’m really emotionally attached to this trophy. This is the first one I won in my career, and it brought some sparkle and momentum for the club in the last two-and-a-half years,” said Sailors’ Head Coach Aleksandar Rankovic.

“To win it three times in a row, not in my wildest dreams.”

Centre back Bailey Wright, an ever-present at the heart of the Sailors’ defence, said: “This was a trophy we wanted to win from the start of the season. We wanted to prove that their (4-1) win over us in the Community Shield was a one-off. So for many reasons, it was important for us, as a team, to win this trophy.”

The Australian added: “I believe the team will grow stronger and stronger and the win will give us confidence and belief for the second half of the season.”
